RECREATIONAL & OC Tech DIVING CONSIDERATIONS

Certification prerequisites:

  • PADI Advanced Open Water OR equivalent TDI Advanced Nitrox for twinset users.

  • Nitrox certification is not mandatory but highly recommended for your own safety and to give you maximum dive times.

Diving in the Galapagos can be challenging, even for the experienced diver, and as such we highly recommend our guests have training beyond beginner level and a minimum experience of 50 dives, preferably in similar conditions.

There may be tough conditions and strong currents at certain dive sites, so for extra security, we recommend all guests complete a Nitrox certification course before joining us aboard the Galapagos Master.

If our dive crew feels that you do not have the relevant skills or experience to dive the more challenging sites safely, then they may stipulate that you sit out some dives. Your cruise director will be able to advise you while on board however if you have concerns regarding the conditions of the destination you wish to visit then please contact us.

Scuba Equipment

Since some of the domestic airline carriers in the regions we operate have strict check-in luggage limits, all Master Liveaboards’ vessels provide rental equipment for an additional fee including:

  • Aqua Lung Wave BCD — not weight-integrated

  • Aqua Lung Calypso Regulator — complete with alternate air source and depth/pressure gauge console

  • Wetsuits — 5 and 7mm full

  • Masks

  • Fins —full foot or open heel and boots depending on destination

  • Underwater torch

  • Dive computer*

  • 15 litre aluminium tank (by special request and depending on availability)

* Please note that the use of a dive computer and surface marker buoy (SMB) is mandatory on our vessels. For safety reasons, Master Liveaboards asks all guests to dive within the limits of their dive computer and make a safety stop at the end of each dive.

12L tanks, SMBs, weight belts and weights are provided free of charge.

  • 12L/80 CU FT Twinset

  • 12L/80 CU FT single tanks
